Champions-Online-news-mysterious-PVP-this-week
Think you've got what it takes to take down the Cryptic Corps? We'll be queuing for PvP in-game this Friday, February 5th, from 3-5PM PST. The Corps will announce in-game what they'll be queuing for, so you'll have fair warning of what to expect. Bring your best level 40 characters, and we'll see whose boss. Those who manage to defeat us will receive a special forum title. See you there!
Sounds like fun. It'll be interesting to see how many people take the challenge.
Champions Online is an MMOG in developed by Cryptic Studios, the same developer who created City of Heroes and City of Villains, based on the Champions pen and paper RPG.
Champions Online is all about total customization – it offers a near infinite number of character customization options so that all players will have a unique game experience. Gamers can create their hero's name, back story, costume, powers and abilities as well as design their own personal arch-enemy and his or her back story, which will guarantee a truly unique experience. Champions Online will give players the power of total customization of their hero experience while they explore a vast universe of richly detailed 3D environments.
Players aid in defending the gaming world from aliens, giant monsters, evil organizations, clones and mad scientists. Battle will not only be waged in the confines of the heroes’ world, but battle will take the players through space and even to alternate dimensions.
The game itself is action-oriented. Successful attacks and blocks increase a power meter which can then be spent to unleash more powerful actions. Death is handled in a similar manner to City of Heroes, in which a player may choose to be revived by a teammate or respawn at a neutral site, except respawning does not accrue experience debt. Instead, upon death you lose one of your five possible accrued Hero Stars. These stars are earned for staying alive while defeating NPCs. Your character gains bonuses to their effectiveness for every star earned (percentage increases to damage, healing, etc.)
The game features an "orb system" where enemies defeated by the player may drop orbs that temporarily benefit the hero's powers, life, or energy.
The game includes non-combat crafting skills, such as various studies in science, arms, and magic, in which these have three other specializations players can choose under them. There are also a variety of travel powers, including swinging using webs or grappling hooks, flying, fire flying, jet-boot flying, rocket boot jumping, hover disks, super jump, super speed, teleportation, acrobatics (fast running, leaps and flips), ice sliding, earth flying, and tunneling.
